Background

JD Sports is a British, sports-fashion retail company based in Greater Manchester. They have shops throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, the USA, Asia, and Australia.

Brief

JD Sports has in-house production capabilities to service its own marketing needs, which encompass photography, high-end retouching, product matching, and creative art-working. However, the business wanted to find ways to make itself more efficient, particularly around seasonal flex, budgetary control, and standardizing quality standards.

Goals

Assess JD Sport’s operational efficiency for content production and propose areas where cost, process, and quality improvements could be found.

Challenge

While the in-house studio was convenient for executing marketing needs, it also carried a high operational cost. The reliance on external freelance resources meant that quality became inconsistent and errors within the manufacturing process were common.

Solutions

We established a team that carried out daily support functions, as well as out-of-hours coverage. This team also covered all seasonal peaks, removing the reliance on expensive external freelance resources.

Outcome

Processed 389 master artworks for POS, banners, OOH, and press advertisements. Further translations and adaptations carried out for the UK, Belgium (Dutch & French), Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, USA, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

Through consistent, high-quality production support, BORN enabled JD Sport to grow both organically and through acquisition with flex firepower during season peaks—all while managing stable budgets.
